Energy Technology
Energy Technology is of great current interest and spans several industry clusters. While there is not yet a single accepted definition for this rapidly growing field, a recent study by the Pew Charitable Trusts identifies the clean energy economy as cutting across the following five categories: clean energy, energy efficiency, environmentally friendly production, conservation and pollution mitigation, and training and support.
While much current activity is in conservation and pollution mitigation, opportunities for significant growth exist in clean energy generation, energy storage and energy efficiency.
Greater Richmond companies involved in various energy technologies include Ingenco, Inc. (methane gas from landfills), Alstom Power (turbines and generators), Recast Energy LLC (energy generation) and Alfa Laval (heat exchangers).
