Agreement signed between Greater Richmond Partnership and Bavaria
Richmond, Virginia, USA, July 1, 2011— The Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc., a regional economic development organization, has signed a partnership agreement with the Bavarian U.S. Offices for Economic Development, LLC. Life sciences, medical devices and products, and information technology will be the focus of the partnership.
The “Joint Action Agreement” was signed on June 29, 2011 at the BIO International Convention in Washington, D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
With an increasingly global marketplace, the agreement creates an economic and business partnership to encourage mutually beneficial business relationships such as joint ventures, partnerships, and licensing agreements between companies in the two regions.
Gregory H. Wingfield, CEO and president of the Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc., stated, “Since inception of the Greater Richmond Partnership in 1994, we have been actively promoting Greater Richmond in Germany and have developed great business relations in Bavaria, Nuremburg and Erlangen. This particular partnership with the Bavarian U.S. Offices for Economic Development, LLC has been in development for the past six months. We look forward working together in a series of activities to promote investment and international trade between our two regions.”
The Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. has established three previous international strategic alliances: Erlangen AG in Bavaria, Germany; Locate in Kent, which represents Kent County, located just southeast of London, England; and Nottingham City Council, Economic Development, UK. A number of trade missions in both directions, seminars and other marketing activities have led to several corporate joint ventures and new business locations among the areas.
Attracting international business to Greater Richmond is a goal the Partnership has had over the past 17 years. In just the past four years, the region has welcomed more than 20 foreign-affiliated companies who have added 1,328 jobs and invested over $172 million.
Currently, there are nearly 40 German-owned businesses with facilities in the Greater Richmond region.
The Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. is the public-private regional economic development organization that represents the City of Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico. The mission is to help grow the Greater Richmond economy through the attraction of high quality jobs and new capital investment, the retention of existing businesses, and the continued improvement of the region's business climate.
