Rowena’s primary role as vice president of Business Development is new business attraction for the Greater Richmond region.  Her job is to be resourceful, to take an interest in each individual project and to learn each company’s needs. She revels in the fact that each day is different and that she gets to share her love for the region. “Every day I meet someone new, learn something new, see something new. I truly enjoy the opportunity to tell people how wonderful Greater Richmond is.”

Rowena takes particular care to create relationships with the people and businesses she works with and to maintain them after the company has located. “Relationships are a key factor in the work we do.”

After working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond as managing editor for external publications, Rowena returned to school and received her Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University. She joined the Partnership in 2005 as a Business Resources Analyst and then moved in business development in 2007. On working for GRP, Rowena says, “I believe in what the Partnership does, the mission, and in the importance of economic development.”

Rowena is a member of VEDA (Virginia Economic Developers Association), SEDC (Southern Economic Development Council), CREW Richmond (Commercial Real Estate Women), and Toastmasters International.

Rowena grew up in Northern Virginia and attended the University of Virginia where she received a B.A. in English. After graduation, she chose to move to Richmond. “Richmond is the perfect size for me; Northern Virginia is too crowded, too expensive and the traffic is too…challenging.” What she loves about Richmond is “the cost of living, being able to buy a house when I was a single person, the James River, and the amount of things to do on the weekends. It can be hard to choose!”

Rowena is happily married and lives with her husband and their two rescue dogs in the City of Richmond. They thoroughly enjoy taking in the local music and food festivals, with the Richmond Folk Festival being a favorite. She loves to travel, having taken recent trips to Sicily, Toronto, and Florida. Rowena plays volleyball weekly at the Richmond Volleyball Club and participates in a monthly book group. She also serves on the Taskforce for the Richmond Ride for Kids, an annual motorcycle ride that raises research money for Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
