Atlanta-based Floor & Decor set to open store here

Floor & Decor will open its first Virginia store Thursday in a former Kmart location in western Henrico County.
This will be the 35th store for the Atlanta-based floor-covering retailer.
The 80,000-square-foot store at 5432 Glenside Drive, just north of West Broad Street, will be the chain’s first to offer the company’s new line of unfinished wood flooring products, a company spokeswoman said.
Josh Moore, manager of the new store, said some contractors prefer to use unfinished wood.
“Unfinished floors do not show the occasional tool or boot scuff or scratch that happens during construction,” Moore said in a statement, adding that customers appreciate the look of site-sanded floors.
Privately held Floor & Decor was founded in 2000. In addition to unfinished wood floors, the chain’s stores carry ceramic, stone, tile and laminate flooring as well as tools and accessories, about 2,500 products in all.
The grand opening is set for Thursday. Former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann will be on hand to meet customers Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.
The store is hiring, according to the company spokeswoman. She did not say how many jobs remain to be filled.
Still available to be leased on the former Kmart property is a 4,000-square-foot former auto center and more than 25,000 square feet that had been a Winn-Dixie grocery store before Kmart took over that space.
Jim Gresock, a senior vice president for S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co., which is handling the leasing of the 10-acre parcel, said potential tenants have expressed interest in the remaining space, “but nothing has been signed and delivered yet.”
