Garden Grove Brewing chooses Carytown location

Beermakers to open first-ever tasting room in retail corridor

RICHMOND, VA – Garden Grove Brewing Company has announced plans to open a tasting room in Carytown, a premier retail and restaurant corridor in the City of Richmond. The startup hopes to bring the active Richmond beer scene to the well traveled destination.

“We will incorporate methods and ingredients that guarantee a unique, enjoyable, and unforgettable experience,” said Ryan Mitchell, co-owner.

“We will also create beers that do not follow any guidelines or trends and are uniquely ours.” Garden Grove's initial line-up is strongly influenced by the Belgian and British brewing traditions created by Michael Brandt, co-owner and the company’s brew master.

“The most memorable and enjoyable beers of the world formulate their character from subtle techniques that produce distinct flavors that are inimitable,” said Brandt, a former winemaker. “Garden Grove’s small size will allow for experimentation and minute adjustments with the production methods which will allow us to coax the most unique and fantastic qualities from our ingredients and methods. We will always strive to create beers that attain the caliber of the world’s great beers.”

“We are pleased to welcome Garden Grove to our food and beverage community,” said Greg Wingfield, President and CEO of the Greater Richmond Partnership. “Greater Richmond has earned a reputation for great beer. We believe Garden Grove can continue this tradition.”

Garden Grove first contacted the Greater Richmond Partnership for assistance when considering different localities in the region. Craft breweries have a specialized set of building standards for their manufacturing needs, including water infrastructure and ceiling height. The location at 3445 W. Cary Street met all of those demands along with the all-important walk-up traffic needed to establish their brand. Chuck Davidson at the City of Richmond’s Department of Urban Planning assisted Garden Grove with zoning and the permit process.

The Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. was launched in 1994 as a pioneering regional public-private initiative to serve as the regional economic development group for the City of Richmond and counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico. The mission is to help grow the regional economy through the attraction of high quality jobs and new capital investment, the retention of existing businesses, and the continued improvement of the region's business climate.
