Richmond-based AR’s Hot Southern Honey adds more retailers

AR’s Hot Southern Honey, a Richmond-area business that sells a fusion of fresh red chilies with Virginia honey, is expanding to retailers and restaurants throughout the Southeast.

AR’s honey is now sold in more than 60 grocery and independent retail stores across Virginia, Alabama and Tennessee. In the Richmond area, the honey can be purchased in stores such as Ellwood Thompson’s Local Market in Richmond, Libbie Market in Richmond and Tom Leonard’s Farmer’s Market in western Henrico County.

The honey is currently being produced in a commercial kitchen, but the business will soon outgrow its capacity. Russell is currently negotiating with a co-packer, or a contract manufacturer, to make his products.

“It’s a great step in the evolution of the business,” said Ames Russell, owner of AR’s Hot Southern Honey. “It means the business is growing and expanding.”
