Joe Kane is the Senior Director of Research at Greater Richmond Partnership. Kane has extensive experience in economic development, having started his career as an economist at the U.S. Dept. of Labor and most recently spending more than a decade as a fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
In his work, he has managed a research portfolio covering local, state and national issues related to economic development, informing the development of new metrics and insights across the country. He has been featured in various media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.
As the Senior Director of Research, Kane leads the research team in business development and marketing initiatives in recruiting companies to the Richmond Region as well as exploring new ways to measure and visualize economic opportunities. Kane oversees data collection, content generation and a variety of research outputs while managing other operational needs.
Kane has spent nearly 20 years around Greater Richmond, but looks forward to forging deeper connections with different people and places across the region. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics and history from William & Mary, and later attended the University of Virginia to earn his master’s in urban and environmental planning. He currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University.
In his free time, he enjoys running, traveling, and hanging out with his two corgis.
