The Greater Richmond Partnership (GRP) announced today that the Transatlantic Business & Investment Council (TBIC) has selected the Greater Richmond region to host its 2027 Transatlantic Business & Investment Conference, the organization’s annual gathering of U.S. economic developers, site consultants and European companies evaluating or expanding U.S. operations.
The selection recognizes Greater Richmond’s standing as a destination for European investment. Since 2018, international companies have invested more than $6.6 billion in the region and created more than 14,300 jobs, according to GRP. More than 210 foreign-affiliated firms now operate upwards of 250 facilities in the region, representing companies headquartered in roughly 30 countries.
“Hosting this conference is a chance to show TBIC’s members what we already know: that Greater Richmond has the sites, the workforce and the track record to make transatlantic investment succeed here,” said Jennifer Wakefield, President and CEO, Greater Richmond Partnership. “We look forward to welcoming European companies and economic developers from across the country to see it firsthand.”
European companies account for a substantial share of that activity with historical activity from the UK, Germany, France and other EU countries. As an example, Denmark-based LEGO Group is building a $1 billion carbon-neutral manufacturing plant in Chesterfield County expected to create more than 1,760 jobs when it opens in 2027.
“Greater Richmond has built a genuine record of attracting and retaining European investment, which is exactly the kind of story our members and prospective investors need to hear,” explained Matthias Beier, TBIC President and CEO. “We’re glad to bring the conference to a region that has done the work to earn it.”
Since 2010, TBIC has facilitated the location of more than 100 companies representing approximately 17,000 jobs through its network of more than 120 member economic development organizations across the United States.
Dates, venue and registration details will be announced in the near future.
