University of Richmond named a Top 25 National Liberal Arts College for 10th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report

Richmond also named a Top 10 Most Innovative School for the second year in a row.
The University of Richmond has again been recognized among the nation’s best liberal arts institutions, ranking No. 21 in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 edition Best Colleges guide, released today. This marks the 10th consecutive year Richmond has been ranked among the Top 25 national liberal arts colleges. UR is also ranked No. 18 on U.S. News’ new Top Private Colleges list.
“Richmond offers a rigorous liberal arts education, the resources and expertise of five schools, and the mentoring relationships of a close-knit residential campus community,” said University of Richmond President Kevin F. Hallock. “Our outstanding staff and faculty create transformative opportunities for students to learn, grow, and thrive, inside and outside of the classroom. With the support of our community, we have gained tremendous momentum and will continue our upward trajectory towards an even brighter future.”
Richmond also rose to No. 6 on the “Most Innovative Schools” list, up from No. 8 last year. The ranking recognizes colleges and universities making innovative improvements in areas including curriculum, faculty, campus life, technology, and facilities.
One recent example of innovation at Richmond includes the completion of a multi-year transformation of Boatwright Memorial Library and the unveiling of the new Carole and Marcus Weinstein Learning Center, a collaborative, state-of-the-art space offering academic services and resources to support students throughout their educational journey.
“Innovation is essential to a liberal arts education because it encourages us to continually evolve how we teach, learn, and conduct research,” said Joan Saab, executive vice president and provost. “We prioritize creating opportunities that enrich the student experience and prepare our graduates to navigate and shape a rapidly changing world.”
