The Richmond Region’s mid-East Coast location has made it a natural transportation and logistics center.

Successful supply chain and logistics companies have established facilities providing materials handling, warehousing, packing and transportation services. Amazon operates four facilities in the region, employing thousands of local workers. Federal Express and UPS have regional hubs in the area.

CSX, Norfolk Southern and AMTRAK provide rail service and James River Barge Service serves the Richmond Marine Terminal, which connects to the Port of Virginia 100 miles away.

The region is also a major military logistics center and home to the U.S. Army Logistics University at Fort Lee and to Defense Supply Center Richmond.

DSC Logistics, XPO Logistics and Riverside Logistics are 3PLs operating in the area. Logistics service providers also include CEVA Logistics, Richmond Cold Storage, Cockrell Distribution Systems and Schenker Logistics.
