Friday
- Hike the James River’s south bank trails and explore Belle Isle, a 54-acre island with Civil War ruins
- Cold pints at Legend Brewing Co. with sweeping river views from the patio
- Dinner at Amuse inside the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, then wander the free galleries until 9 p.m.
Saturday
- Croissants at Sub Rosa Bakery — one of the best in the country, recently rebuilt after a fire
- A walk through Church Hill’s beautifully preserved 18th-century rowhouses
- Free tour of Maggie L. Walker’s historic home in Jackson Ward, the “Harlem of the South”
- The American Civil War Museum at Tredegar — honest, powerful, essential
- Cocktails at the Jasper, named for a pioneering Black bartender from the 1800s
- Burgers and spiked milkshakes at Beauvine Burger Concept
Sunday
- Stroll the Fan District — allegedly the largest preserved collection of Victorian homes in the U.S.
- Pancakes at Helen’s Restaurant, a Richmond institution since 1935
- Tour the 33-room Gilded Age mansion at Maymont park (just reopened after two years of restoration)
