RICHMOND, VA. โ March 25, 2024 โ Today, Amazon celebrated the official opening of our new, state-of-the-art robotics fulfillment center with Gov. Glenn Youngkin, state and local officials and community partners in Richmond. The 2.7 million-square-foot facility is Amazonโs newest fulfillment center in Virginia and the commonwealthโs second Amazon robotics fulfillment center. Inside of the Richmond facility, over 1,000 employees operate and work with innovative technology to assist in fulfilling customer orders.
โThe grand opening of Amazonโs new fulfillment center in Virginia is a testament to the Commonwealthโs exceptional infrastructure, competitive business costs, and long-term commitment to talent development and workforce training,โ said Governor Glenn Youngkin. โAmazonโs cutting-edge fulfillment centers generate major capital investment, thousands of jobs and strengthen Virginiaโs position as a logistics industry leader on the East Coast. We welcome their continued partnership as we work to continue making Virginia the best state to grow your business.โ
Ammar Ahmad, the General Manager of the Richmond Fulfillment Center, led a special, behind-the-scenes tour for attendees. He explained how Richmond employees play an integral role in efficiently and safely delivering orders for Amazon customers by picking, packing, and shipping smaller customer items such as books, electronics, and toys.

Itโs bringing the possibly of brighter futures. I am grateful for Amazonโs commitment to the Henrico community and wish them much success.โ
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $109 billion in Virginia, including infrastructure and compensation to employees, and has created more than 39,000 full- and part-time jobs here. These investments support an additional 200,800 indirect jobs across the state, in fields like construction and professional services, and have contributed more than $72.9 billion to the Virginia GDP, on top of the companyโs direct investments.
