Partnership unveils results at 20th Annual Meeting

August 21, 2014

$2.7 billion in capital investment and 4,000 jobs attached to announced projects

RICHMOND, VA – The Greater Richmond Partnership (“Partnership”), the economic development group for the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and the City of Richmond, held its 20th Annual Meeting at the Hilton Short Pump on Thursday morning, Aug. 21.

During the event, the regional organization unveiled its results from the 2013-2014 fiscal year, which included supporting the creation of nearly 4,000 new jobs and $2.7 billion in new capital investment. Since 1994, the Partnership has assisted 453 new companies to the region that have created $10.7 billion in capital investment. Over the last 20 years, the value of the Partnership has risen: For every $1 provided by the public and private sector to carry out its mission, the organization has returned $192 in capital investment to the region.

“The 2013-2014 fiscal year proved to be a great bookend for 20 years of the Partnership providing regional economic development,” said Gregory H. Wingfield, CEO and President of the Greater Richmond Partnership.

This year, through collaborative efforts of the GRP’s partners and allies, the business attraction program successfully assisted 15 new and expanded companies, including Lumber Liquidators, Medline, Shandong Tranlin Paper Company and Teleperformance.

Local economic development partners and community volunteers of the regional business retention program, Business First Greater Richmond, supported the creation of 504 jobs and $15 million in new capital investment. The program’s annual report and survey findings will be released in the next few months.

Also during the presentation, Wingfield addressed the Partnership’s fundraising efforts. “We are at nearly 70 percent toward our private sector goal, and we are expecting more commitments in the next few weeks that should put us over the top,” he said. “We call on our investors to help the Partnership escalate the business climate in the region and for 20 years, they have graciously responded.”

Details regarding the Partnership’s final scorecard numbers can be found here.
